Blenders
My first project this week (retired last week) is to organize my fabric. I didn't think i had as much as I do. I've went through 200 comic boards and need to buy another 200. Plus have lots of fat quarters and scraps. Most are prints that I really liked when I bought them: some I wonder what I was thinking. I need blenders but not sure what colors would be the best to get to start my stash.

I use neutrals a lot. But I would suggest you go with the predominant colors in your stash. Personally I try not to keep much of s stash, I buy as I go for each project. Leftovers are what I have in my stash but I don't use the much. Maybe I need to do a scrappy one of these days.....

Once you get them all organized...maybe you will see a color pattern. I would get some neutrals, but that is tricky too...because the shade or tone doesn't always go with all colors.
Maybe just plan to add to your next project after you pick out the main fabrics from your stash. |
I'm almost retired and just organized my sewing room. I don't have the stash that you do but found that once I had things organized by color (wow-I must love purple!) I could see what was missing. I was missing a lot of beiges and whites for backgrounds. Now when I see those on sale I pick them up in various tones/shades. I hate starting a project and not having what I need on hand.

l do try to have neutrals on hand but for some projects I do have to find just the right fabric to complement it. I figure if I can use my stash for the majority of the quilt I don't have an issue with purchasing just the right one to go with it.

I, too, would wait and see what the next project required and then go shopping.

I have tons of fabrics. I'm not retired but make one quilt after I finish one. I'm going to be giving lots away. I need more room to store some I want to keep. I like to have a big selection to choose from.
