Block Alignment Tip

I'm working on a charity scrap quilt which will consist of 20 rows with each row made with twenty 2.5 inch squares. I sew two rows together, finger press the two rows apart, lay a metal yardstick along the seam between the two rows and the yardstick reveals whether I need to "nudge" the seam up or down to make the seam straight, then I remove the yardstick and iron press the two rows. Using the yardstick to check the seam eliminates any "row bowing". Then I sew a two row section to another two row section and I use the yardstick to check the seam between the two sections. Then I attach two four row sections You get the idea.

Am I telling you folks about something you discovered years ago?

I sew 2 rows together and press on the seams diagonally to the dark side. Some quilt books show this method. At least one of the Thimbleberries by Lynette Jensen and The Simple Joys Of Quilting by Joan Hanson and Mary Hickey. Hard telling how many more.
