I made blocks 12". I have been moving them on the design wall and like the look of putting them on point. My problem is . . . for the life of me I can't wrap my head around how to make a square out of the block now it is on point. I know! duh. any help would be apprecciated. I tried making triangles for each corner. that was a bust.

that should work, maybe triangles need to be a different size????? It worked on paper!!LOL Not much help am I?

according to quilt bug, for a 12 inch block the setting triangles are made from a 18 1/4 inch square cut diagonally both ways, the corner triangles are from a 9 1/2 inch square cut once diagonally

Maybe this will help...

Formula = finsihed block size (12) x 1.414 + 1.25, then round up to the nearest quarter inch.
cut squares 18.25 inches, then cut twice on the diagonal for your side triangles. This is exactly as Kat Sews says. |
omg! thank you all! I was cutting a sq of 12" and cutting it and wondering why it didn't FIT! what's the definition-is it insanity that you keep doing the same thing expecting different results? lol. yep I'm a lil nuts
