This is exactly what I would do, and in fact have done in the past. Grrr.

Fray Check is a glue product. Be aware that it is permanent (will not wash out) and leaves the fabric very stiff.

I found a small slit in a piece of fabric while machine quilting my Spiderweb quilt. There was no way to get out the piece to replace it. I used WonderUnder to prepare a small patch out of the same fabric BUT I used the tweezers to insert it through the slit and spread it flat under the hole. I followed the instructions to fuse it in place under the slit. I made sure to machine stitch over the spot to secure the patch under the fabric and disguise the slit. If it had been in a good spot I would have added an appliqué on top. I still may appliqué a spider over the repaired slit later IF I can find it on the quilt!

if you have a piece of the fabric left over you can put some fabric glue on it and put it in the snip just do some stitching over it once it has dried and no one will ever know.
