HOW TO DO MEANDERING ON A BLOCK ONE AT A TIME AND THEN HOW WOULD YOU PUT ALL FINISHED BLOCKS TOGETHER. I AM NEW AT THIS ALL HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANKS

Just quilt as usual, but leave space to have your seam joined . I left 1/2 inch from the edge of the block unstitched and that gave me room to sew my seam and not be noticeable that the quilting had stopped.

Barb, do a search here on the QB for either quilt as you go or QAYG. There are lots of threads here with info on it. Someone did a tutorial on it recently that is really good (with pictures).

I used sashing strips between the blocks when I made one that way. I saw a lady on Simply Quilts do it that way. Only draw back was hand-sewing all the strips on the back side but it is definitely do-able.

I'll upload the picture of the one I did. I was a newbie at the time and should have made the sashing wider. The sashing strips are double thickness, front & back to make up for the lack of batting between the blocks.

Thanks for that info BK, I always wondered about that, it is so simple once you know how and I didn't even think of it! Thankyou so much! I am saying this as I have a project in mind but didn't want to cut it out and start as I couldn't work out how to make the sashing the same thickness without batting, how dumb am I?!* The fabric is furnishing offcuts, too thick to regular quilt.

Here is one I did no hand sewing, there is sort of a mini tute and how I made my template.

Mine was quilted block by block rather than "As you piece". Each block is a little quilt, really. I did use basting spray on each block to hold it together while I quilted it so I wouldn't have pins in my way.

I believe you could leave a little extra batting around the edges of each block and zig-zag the batting back together, then cover with single thickness sashing strips if you wanted to. The lady I saw doing it this way used single thickness sashing on the front and double on the back and then hand stitched the folded edge on the back side just like binding.
