Be sure to include an addressed return envelope and postage..

Thanks

Everyone is Welcome. no limit to number of participants..

12 1/2 inch UNFINISHED blue and white stars,, any stars, any blue and white fabrics

MAKE SURE YOUR BLOCKS MEASURE 12 1/2 INCHES BEFORE YOU MAIL THEM TO ME.. blocks smaller than 12 1/2 inches will be returned..

Sorry to be so strict on this point... but it is necessary to be fair

here is how it works...

You make 12 blocks, all alike and send them to me.. the orgainizer, along with a self addressed, stamped envelope for return postage... what ever it cost to send it to me, it will cost to return your blocks to you...so be sure to put enough postage on your envelope.

I will send you back one of your blocks and one each of 11 different blocks..

Please mark EACH ONE of your blocks with a little slip of paper pinned to or a sticky label with your message board id and if you want to, your real name. It is nice to know who made the blocks in your quilt.

Mail your blocks to me by March 1, 2009

I will mail them back out by March 15, 2009

Judy- I would like to participate and would be interested in doing 12" blue stars.

judee0624 09-20-2008 07:32 AM

I am in. Please sign me up for Exchange 2. I have used up all my CW repro fabrics.

Brazen 09-20-2008 07:46 AM

Judy, I'm in for Exchange 2! 12 1/2" blue & white stars. :D

Lisa

bj 09-20-2008 07:57 AM

I'd like to join the 2nd one...12.5" blue and white stars. Do we make the ones we send to you all the same? or do they need to be different? Sounds like fun.

all the same

SazuBMidlands 09-20-2008 08:14 AM

I'm not exactly sure when your Civil War was, but the blue and white stars is tempting... 4 months would be roughly the end of Jan? Sounds do-able. Can this be international too?

jstitch 09-20-2008 08:16 AM

yes, international is welcome
deadline will be 1st of March, 2009. I need to receive it by this date, so if you are mailing international, please mail it early enough to get here by then.

SazuBMidlands 09-20-2008 08:20 AM

Sounds good - count me in!

And I've just looked it up - the American Civil war was 1861-1865, so started 210 years after the English one ended. Not sure what that would mean for fabric though. I think I understand stars more.

mgshaw 09-20-2008 08:27 AM

OK, sign me up for the stars too! I just recently finished a Bear Paw and although I love the CW repros, I havent done a star quilt for about 8 years. Sounds like fun!!!!

Calico92402 09-20-2008 10:03 AM

This is new to me, so a simple question for clarification: Do you mean the blocks are to be the picture of a star or stars? (At least I understand the blue and white fabric rule.) I'm just a little unsure about what is meant. Thank you!

A pieced star block...

like an ohio star for example in blue and white fabrics..

there are many different piece star blocks to choose from. It is your choice which on you want to do.

When you get them back you will have one of 12 different stars to make into a sampler type quilt

Does that help? let me know if not.

collettakay 09-20-2008 11:19 AM

count me in. I'll pm you.

Calico92402 09-20-2008 11:30 AM

Thank you, Judy - that does explain it. Count me in! And let me know what I do now, other than making 12 identical blocks.

QuiltingTurtle 09-20-2008 12:21 PM

I would love to join this exchange. :)

Dawn Hendrix 09-20-2008 12:40 PM

I am interested in joining this exchange.

where can we find 12 1/2 inch stars.. most sites are 12 even?

Brazen 09-20-2008 02:22 PM

Hey Judy,

I'm looking thru Quilter's Cache and my own books here. When you run swaps, do you ask us to publically choose a block so that others know that one's already taken? Or doesn't it matter if we get a duplicate because it will be a sampler-type quilt anyway? :)

I say just make what you want. If a design is duplicated it most likely will look different due to fabric choices..

If we get more that 12, I will try to put similar blocks in different sets

mgshaw 09-20-2008 02:53 PM

Can it be two or more different blues with the white, or should it just be one blue fabric with white? Several of the patterns I have need a couple of different shades.

jstitch 09-20-2008 02:55 PM

Any number of blues and any number of whites...

just stay with blue and white...

multiple blues will be beautifulllll

mgshaw 09-20-2008 02:55 PM

Cool!!!

SaraSewing 09-20-2008 03:13 PM

Please count me in too, if there is enough space left. This sounds like such a fun swap. Sara

dojo36 09-20-2008 07:45 PM

i've never done this before but it sounds like fun, but what do you mean UNFINISHED?

purplemem 09-20-2008 09:04 PM

count me in, I love blue and white stars

Purplemem

Baren*eh*ked_canadian 09-21-2008 04:54 AM

Ooo, count me in too!
This sounds like fun, and it gives me enough time to get them done since I'm working 2 jobs at around 60hrs per week :hunf:
So, the way I see it, any 12 inch block from a book or a site will really be 12" finished, right, so 12.5 unfinished...right?

sewsewquilter 09-21-2008 05:30 AM

I want to join. I have always wanted a blue and white quilt but couldn't decide on a pattern.

Deb

sandpat 09-21-2008 05:36 AM

mrsj82 09-21-2008 06:40 AM

I would love to join this! Is there even room for another person? Let me know! Oh....this sounds like fun!!!! Can't wait to get started!

Unfinished includes the 1/4 in seam allowance on all sides..
So when sewn into the quilt it will end up 12 inches.

dojo36, not sure if you wanted to be include, please post either way.

jstitch 09-21-2008 07:36 AM

This exchange has room for an unlimited number of participants.
So, anyone can join at any time as long as you are ready to mail your blocks to me by Mar 1. I will need to know who you are so that I can PM my mailing address to you, so keep me updated on whose in.

If I got you, you are in the sign up list on the first page. If I missed you, please PM me.

And,, we now have enough participants that I want to offer you a second option...

You can do TWO sets.. ie 12 of one block and 12 of a second block....
and get 24 different blocks in return. Think about it....

Judy

mrsj82 09-21-2008 07:39 AM

Awesome!!! I cannot wait to get this started! I've already got a pattern in mind!

Dawn, when you find a 12 inch block pattern, that usually indicates a 12 inch finished block, which will be 12 1/2 inches unfinished

So, all of those blocks are OK for you to use..

jstitch 09-21-2008 08:19 AM

International postage issue:

Elle has been so good to identify a small problem with my instructions for those of you living outside the US...

Here is my proposal..

When you send your blocks, include a self addressed envelope, without the postage. When you go to the Post office, note the weight of the package you are mailing it to me...then PM me with that number.

I will send you a paypal invoice for the postage in your local currency.
Pay pal will do the conversion to USD and I will recieve that amount for the return postage. I will purchase the postage and apply to the envelope for the return...

What do you think? Are you international girls OK with this?

Elizabeth A. 09-21-2008 08:47 AM

jstitch I'm not certain that would work as whenever I send things to Canada it's always less to ship them to canada, than have someone send me the exact same thing From Canada.

It might be best if they note the "weight" of the package they are sending, then you can look up what it would cost to send that weight back to them.

Elizabeth A. 09-21-2008 08:49 AM

Perhaps a flat USPS envelope or box? Then at least you'd know how much it would be, even if there was a bit of extra space in the box.

Good point Elizabeth, thanks, I think that is an improvement..

Elizabeth, thaks for the suggestion. my experience with flat rate international is that it is only good if you are sending a lot of weight. I can stuff a flat rate box with a TON of fabric. But the flat rate box is expensive for small amounts.

Good ideas, keep them coming.
