in the starch discussion it came up about the old days and using bluing to make your whites whiter...a simple google turned up this..
Mrs. Stewarts laundry bluing is still being made!!http://www.mrsstewart.com/ you can use their website or you can find these other products at amazon! http://www.amazon.com/Bluette-Concen.../dp/B004VN9SPU |
I have a bottle of Mrs. Stewart's bluing. Haven't used it lately.
I've tried bluing in the past, but not recently.
I saw it in the store the other day, wish I had picked it up, next shopping trip.
I use Mrs. Stewart's blueing the rinse cycle of every white load I wash. It is an oldie but goodie. Gets rid of the yellow/greys and adds sparkle.
I'm not sure how this would work with a front load washer?
I have a front loader and hope someone can answer this for us.
I used bluing when I first became a nurse because all I wore was whites and lived in the country. Well water with a water softener! I always got compliments on how white my uniforms were!

It's still available in most grocery stores in my area. I put a bottle in our pool, the water turns to beautiful ocean blue. My kids use to grow crystals on charcoal using the bluing for science projects.

I bought it to add to the 4H pigs shampoo, but it works great in the laundry too. My 13 year old DS's old t-shirts look new.
I've used it for years. When I worked in a nursing home years ago, we had to wear all white. My supervisors cloths were always beautifully white and pressed. One day she came in and her pretty white just looked a little blue? So of course I had to ask because I'm not shy. And she told me about this blue stuff. But she also told me if your not careful and let your daughter do your laundry that you could end up blue! It works great.
