This was a touching special on Bob's recovery from injuries received while filming in Iraq. He received immediate medical help in Iraq. He was then moved to Germany and later to the US.

In the story, his wife wanted to travel to the US on the same plane with him and was denied owing it was a medical transport and there was no passenger space. She was told that a quilt had been laid over his legs and would be there when he arrived home. Every injured soldier/marine receives a quilt. I was astounded to hear that over 200,000 have been injured and unable to return to duty. Many have serious head injuries.

What does anyone know about these quilts? How can we help? WE MUST HELP!!

Oh, wonderful. I'm with you, Patrice, I can make a pile in a couple of days. I joined one group that said they were there for the guys, but it was a fund raising thing. So, this sounds like it might be the right thing!

Quilts are not the only things people are jumping in and helping with, some groups do toiletry kits, used cellphones, bottle of water...for crying out loud!. Another site that has lots of info about helping, from very simple but extremely useful stuff on up to blankets/no-sew blankets, quilts ....... well, look it over for yourself.....http://soldiersangels.com. I mention the obvious when I say they deserve and need any act of thoughtfulness. Betty 8)

I watched this program last evening and didn't hear a particular group's name mentioned. I work w/ a group of quilters who make "prayer quilts". These are lap size,with perle cotton ties, with a prayer "tied" into them.
The website for more info is www.prayerquilt.org They are given to people as a physical sign of prayers being said for them during an illness,after an accident or surgery,etc.

There are so many that we can offer comfort and support in so many ways. It inspires me to do more, and to count my blessings. There are several worthwhile links her and I want to do them all, but, alas, there is only one of me. I vow to pick one and DO it. Thank you for the inspiration.

As the mother of a soldier serving "over there" I can assure you that the men appreciate ANY and ALL signs of support from home!

There is a 'wounded barracks' here at Camp LeJeune, Marine Corps base. Those guy's all got quilts when they were sent home, they've received Injured clothing from a group that's looking for people to sew, they've gotten dinners, and parties, but none of it makes up for the pain, of course, but it sure helps their spirit and every one of them, without exception have wanted to return to finish the mission. I stopped taking the news seriously when they continued to bemoan the lack of support of the US for the military.

Yes, I love the brave and the honorable men and women of our military, all of them here and abroad. ANYTHING we do is better than sitting back and allowing the media to demoralize our brave!!!!

i've known for years you can't believe anything you see on any of the major news networks.

most people do support out military and their mission. unfortunately, we get drowned out by the Hollywood crowd, who despise everything we stand for.

that's ME on the soap box. and i'm here to stay.
