Bobbin Genie
 

I am ordering a package of bobbin genie for my Husqvarna SapphireQ. Watched two you tube videos and one says put a drop of oil in bobin case. My machine is completely computerized and uses no oil what so ever. Wouldn't that drop of oil hurt my machine. the other video did not use oil. Will the genie be as effective without the oil?

Everything I have read says the bobbin area in all machines needs a drop of oil ever so often. The self lubricating machines do not need oiling on a regular basis in the housing because the gears are infused and releases a lubricant when in use. A drop of oil won't hurt your bobbin area. When you take it in for maint/cleaning everything moving part gets oil. I use the Genies in all my machines but do not add the drop of oil because it gets on my bobbin thread, I use prewound bobbins and take off the paper sides. I do take the tension spring out of the metal bobbin case.

I would definitely check with my dealer first. Not all machines take oil in the bobbin area - I am thinking that the machines with the top drop in bobbins specifically say NOT to oil in that area.

I have a Viking Sapphire 830 and didn't notice a difference when I tried the Bobbin Genie a couple of years ago. I didn't put any oil on it. Must have missed that part of the instructions.

i just checked with my dealer and he said yes to put a drop of oil in the center where the hole is in the bobbin case holder there is a wick there that accepts oil

The manual says not to oil. That is for home users so the wrong lubrication or too much won't happen.

the oil is just to make the genie "stick" I used oil the first time maybe 3 yrs ago but it's all gone and works the same.

I have 2 Janome machines and the manuals don't say a word about oiling the machine. My dealer told me to add a drop of oil on the wick in the center of the bobbin housing every time I clean the bobbin area. With my first machine I thought the wick was just lint and removed it--took a lot of work and not recommended--I managed to put it back in and never had a problem. Oh, to be young and dumb again!!! lol
