Recently purchased a cone of thread and cannot get a smooth bobbin wound. Although the cone fits on top of my machine to sew, it is too wide to sit there when winding bobbins. Any suggestions?

I set my big spools behind my machine, then I just run the thread up through the guide and wind my bobbins :D:D:D

My guides are all on the top, and wouldn't smoothly wind from below. I even tried running the thread through a straw taped to the machine.

Put the cone inside a cup behind or next to the machine, pick up the thread once you are ready to push the button to fill the bobbin. Hold it with your finger at the same level where it would be if it was on the machine but make sure the thread can run freely. You can also use a thread holder behind the machine, but if you don't have one the cup and your hand will do great.

I'll try again. Thank you.

i have a box, it's tall (about 4") and narrow...and a cone fits in it just right, i use that to hold my cones then thread the machine. one of these days i'm going to buy one of those cool cone holders!

I think I read on this thread that if you put a regular spool of thread inside the cone, then place on thread holder on top of the machine, it will work quite well. Just a thought.

that's how i sew with the cone. but the cone is too wide to be on top when winding a bobbin.
