Hi All-

I want to try using some new multi-colored thread from Superior..its called Poly quilted and is thicker than some of the other threads I have. Do I need to use the same thread for the bobbin as top? I've never done this before. When I machine quilt, I usually use the same top and bobbin thread.

Thanks!

I like to use the same in the top and bottom too, I use 40wt embroidery thread in both without any problems. I have even used a 30 wt, I just had to wind bobbins more often :D:D:D

Superior Thread has some good information on their web site about your question.

I think it depends a lot on the machine too. My Janome doesn't like it when I use different weight thread top and bottom - it vomits thread. My Husky couldn't care less.

You have to try and see what happens. Every operator and machine combination needs to find its sweet spot. There are several factors to consider. Not only the weight of the thread, but the size of the needle, and the speed you're running the machine. So go ahead and experiment. You can have some amazing results using the same combo another person can't get to work.
