I have seen the ads for those all over the place, but does any one know where to buy them at? Are they in stores yet??

I found them in a Mary Maxim Magazine! Also in the Keep Quilting Magazine. $29.95 plus shipping.

my local jo-anns had one (yes, only one, as i believe they are pretty popular). it was on the notions wall/aisle.

I also got mine at Joanns. Wait until you get a coupon. I used a 40% off coupon when I got mine.

What does everyone think of those?

I work at a local shop and several...meaning more than 3 folks have purchased and do not like them. They say they are a waste of money. It doesn't wind as tightly has a machine bobbin winder would and it seems to break. The owner of the shop when she was in Quilt Market in the fall look at the vendor of these new notions and even the vendor couldn't get the winder to work right.

If you are using a 50% off coupon and basically trying it for $10, it might be worth the risk. I personally would not get one.

I think it would be money wasted on another dust collector. I've finally learned to wind enough bobbins before I start (usually). But the winder is acting crazy on my favorite machine so if I didn't have others to wind them on I would be grateful for one. So in that instance I think it's a wonderful invention.

I bought mine at Joanns, they still have tons there. I would use my coupon because they are pretty expensive. It doesn't work for all machines. I have pastic bobbins for my Viking which they won't fit,However it works for my Featherweight. Did I waste my money? Yes.

i brought my frist one at a company called sew and vac i placed my order and i had to wait 2 month for it because they had to strat selling them the month of november and tthen i got a news letter from hancocks where they had a sale for the winding bobbin you buy 2 for $29.95,i jump at the sale so sign up for your newletters it helps :D :D :D :D :D :D

if you have a jo-anns near you, on 1/20 & 21 they are having 50% off the notions wall. in my store they are on the bottom shelf of the notions wall (still only one), so i'm wondering if they will be 50% off.

I just use my sewing machine to wind bobbins. It's fast, smooth, and easy. I can't imagine paying for another gadget.

Even if I don't want to unthread the machine (although it only takes a second!), I can wind bobbins by placing the spool on the other peg or on a cone thread adapter or even holding it loosely in my hand.

The best thing to do, of course, is wind enough bobbins for your project ahead of time, but winding bobbins is really easy on the sewing machine!

I bought mine at Hancocks for 14.99 (sale). It works great. I have had no problems. It winds all the way. I read somewhere that some people that were having problems were not putting the bobbin down all the way. You have to hear it snap then wind. It will wind with out the snap but not as well. I am very happy with mine!

Donna, I got a sidewinder for Christmas and it works on my Viking plastic bobbins, maybe you should try it again!

I absolutely love my Side Winder. It is the best little thing since sliced bread. I got mine at JoAnn's using the 40% coupon and they were also have another special around the holidays where you got another 10% off your entire purchase so I feel like I stole the thing. My quilter group tried mine at our January class and several went out and got themselves one, too. They are way cool!!

I had some of the same problems you speak of when I FIRST tried the Side Winder but then I pulled the thread around the 2 little pegs at the front of the gaget and then put the bobbin on the peg to be filled and it made all the difference in the world in the winding and now I get perfectly wound bobbins. My bobbins are plastic. The Sidewinder shows the 2 peds I speak of as a place to put FULL bobbins after filling but I use the pegs as described above and it works beautifully. My sewing machines are a New Home 8000, Brother XR65-T and my sister's is a Pfaff. All the bobbins for these machines work. My neighbor has a Singer and my quilting friends have Viking, Singers, Pfaff, Montgomery Ward, Singer and White Featherweights and all seem to be able to fill their bobbins on the Sidewinder.
