I am getting ready to do FMQ on my recently finished quilt and as I am winding bobbins for my Juki I am wondering why I can wind them only half way, my old Singer bobbins I can wind till they are full 'to the brim'. One of the most frustrating parts of FMQ is the frequent need to change the bobbin. Just wondering if any of you are experiencing the same?

I haven't had that problem with my Juki- they wind fully. I would recheck the manual on it.

You can probably adjust the machine's settings to get more thread on the bobbin. There's usually something that rides along the outside of the thread on the bobbin that lets snaps back to let the machine know when the bobbin is full.

I feel for you, those kinds of things are so frustrating!

my juki F600 does not wind them fully but i usually use prewounds

what type of juki machine do you have? on mine (2010), the manual says i can adjust the tension arm that lets the machine know the bobbin is full, so the bobbin doesn't spin anymore. its basically a screw that holds the tension arm

You might try prewound bobbins. I use m size in my Juki. Can sew a long time. I go to a retreat and can sew all day with one bobbin and if you are FMQ you don't want to change bobbins all the time.

If your bobbins are plastic, can they wear out?

I am so glad that I asked, it was a simple solution, should have thought of it on my own. Just loosen up the screw and now I can wind a whole bobbin. Thank you all for making me think!
