Boiled wool for applique

Is it ok to use boiled wool for wool applique candle mats? I have some jackets that I no longer wear and was wondering if I could cut them apart for wool applique. Has any one ever used boiled wool in their work? Just curious.

I don't know the answer but I have given a wool jacket to a friend who uses them in applique. I think she put her applique in a picture frame. I don't know anything about candle mats...sorry

They should be fine but check how thick they are. It is only a little harder to work with super thick wool. Go for it. I use recycled wool in my hooked rugs.

I use boiled wool almost everyday for quilting projects- I love working with wool! boiled (felted) wool works great for candle mats, coasters, placemats, table toppers, purses, rugs, quilt appliques...the sky is the limit! in my mind-if you can make it with cotton, you can make it better with wool. :) check out sites like ' the wooly lady' , 'sue spargo', 'primitive gatherings' , 'a couple of sisters designs' ; browse ' The Cotton Patch Quilt Shoppe' (in East Tawas, MI) website, they have pages & pages of wool projects to look at. search - Penny Rugs for more ideas-inspiration. there are tons of sites that feature wool projects.
