Bonnie Hunter Celtic Solstice Quilt
I'm making the king size Bonnie Hunter Celtic Solstice Quilt. I added up the number of pieces and think that, before borders, that there's 6,198 pieces. Has anyone else came to this conclusion, or am I incorrect in my assumption?

Adding up the pieces in a quilt before you start is always a mistake.:D

I never count up how many pieces are in my quilts BEFORE the fact--except for my first Baltimore Block. A single 18" block had 81 pieces and that was one of the simpler ones!!

Oh dear. That sounds hard, but very impressive!
I made one 9" block once with 64 pieces. Only one. I did a terrible job on it. |
In the words of Gomer Pyle, "GollllEEEEEE, Sarge!" I'm impressed. Guess when I get to that stage of my quilting "career," I will have earned similar bragging rights. Tee hee. Are you impressed that my current doll quilt has just 12 pieces, 17 if you count border and backing? Me neither. ;)

Is this pattern available at all any more? I've searched Bonnie Hunter's blog and her list of books, but it seems to have disappeared.

Celtic Solstice has been taken down. It will appear in her next book.
|
I made my Celtic Solstice queen sized. I was going to count the pieces but decided to wait until I quilt it.
|
I am making the smaller Celtic Solstice, still have to get the borders on but everything is pieced. This is the first of hers I have done and yes there are ALOT of PIECES in her patterns. I wouldn't want to know at the beginning.
|
Yes, I too like know the number of piece. My Ohmigosh had almost 10,000 pieces and it was only lap size. After that, I think I can handle most anything.
|
I only counted the pieces once. It was from the Bible block quilt. I counted after. It was terrible to piece. It had 56 pieces and every one was a y seam and took me 10 hours to put together a 9 inch block. If it was the first block I never would have completed the quilt. I gave it to my minister son. I wouldn't like to make a quilt thinking there was 1000's of pieces in it. Counting afterwards that many pieces wouldn't be bad giving one a sense of accomplishment.
|
Stop counting and just enjoy the process! :)
|
...never thought of counting pieces, before or after, just wanted to sew it, finish, and do another....but now, a little voice will always whisper...hmm, wonder how many pieces that has.........

I too have the king size Celtic Solstice in progress (haven't worked on it in a couple of months due to other commitments) and all I can say is there are a LOT of pieces. I would not be surprised if you are correct ... but I am not going to count them to find out. :)

You need to get these patterns when she is doing these mystery quilts or you will have to wait until her next book comes out and then buy it.

I don't count. I just cut and sew!! I know!!! My friend who will remain nameless counts continueiously
Drives me wild! |

I've never done one of Bonnie's quilts, and I've never counted the # of pieces in a tablecloth I made. BUT, I always count the number of hand stitches in the bindings I put on my quilts!
