Here's my version of Bonnie Hunter's pattern, Chunky Churn Dash. This is the unquilted top. Any good suggestions for quilting?

Tweety2911 04-25-2014 11:35 AM

Gorgeous scrappy!! I would use a panto to quilt this or an all over FMQ design.

JuneBillie 04-25-2014 12:03 PM

Beautiful scrappy. Everything about it is perfect.

tebill 04-25-2014 12:13 PM

I printed out the pattern already! You did such an amazing job! I should have a lot of pieces left over from my civil war quilt so this might be the next quilt for our family! thanks so much for sharing this!

busy fingers 04-25-2014 12:17 PM

Another gorgeous scrappy.

ppquilter 04-25-2014 04:53 PM

Love scrappie, great job!

sewingsuz 04-25-2014 05:30 PM

Your scrappy is very stunning.

frustratedquilter40 04-25-2014 05:35 PM

Love it super scrappy !!!! When I make scrappies where there is so much going on I usually do an all over simple panto and they always look great.

DebbE 04-25-2014 05:51 PM

I'd do something nice and swirly and roundish, to offset all the straight edges....what a lovely quilt!

Jingle 04-25-2014 06:34 PM

Beautiful, I just FMQ most of my quilts.

craftyheart2 04-26-2014 12:29 AM

Love how scrappy you have made this. I have a more controlled version in my UFOs.

A panto will be just fine for this - anything fancier would get lost.

scrapinmema 04-26-2014 02:38 AM

Beautiful top and love the colors.

carolynjo 04-26-2014 02:47 AM

I love the top!

DianneK 04-26-2014 03:58 AM

love your version...I had the pleasure of meeting her in person...she came to our quilt guild!!

southernmema 04-26-2014 04:39 AM

Simply marvelous!

quiltsRfun 04-26-2014 04:44 AM

Beautiful! I love that pattern and am working on one of my own right now. Bonnie does all over quilting patterns so it doesn't compete with the scrappiness. That's my plan.

tropit 04-26-2014 04:52 AM

Beautiful! You did a fabulous job on it! As for how to quilt it, I like the swirly idea mentioned above...maybe some spirals.

Strange, but I like this pattern so much better than the original Churn Dash with the HST in the corners. Your quilt is beautiful.

Cute.. I was just looking at her Out on a String tute....got a box of strips that need a project.......

You did a great job on your scrappy! This looks like a fun one to put together! I think something with big swirls or curves would look good. Be sure to show us the finished product!

Love the use of the dark grey or black in the background of half the blocks. Really gives the eye a resting place without detracting from the beautiful scrappy fabrics. No suggestions on the quilting. I have a tendency to pick quilting patterns that play with each individual block, or quilt like fabric in like patterns (such as the black or the white in one texture) but I am trying to broaden my choices so will be interested to hear what others have to say. Be sure and show us what you decide.

MargeD 04-26-2014 09:45 AM

WOW, it's gorgeous. I love the black and white print on alternating blocks, unique and very striking. Nice, no ideas for quilting though, sorry.

matraina 04-26-2014 03:15 PM

No quilting patterns but your quilts are gorgeous!

brandeesmom 04-26-2014 09:39 PM

Love your scrappy, it is beautiful!!

twinkie 04-27-2014 04:03 AM

That is fantastic. If you are accomplished in FMQ, I would try a design in the center square and the white triangles. Think that would be gorgeous.

I used loopy feathers type of panto on mine. Don't you just love this CCD? Mine is also on my bed. We did a block exchange at Quiltville swap for this block and it is such fun to see blocks I know I didn't do. The one thing I would control more (didn't think of it at the time) I have some light blocks and wish I had made sure of the light, dark placement - put the light with the dark color - mine is black and white. Light with the dark. I don't see yours as having that problem. Beautiful.

Wanabee Quiltin 04-27-2014 05:10 AM

Beautiful quilt. I would do a panto over it, it's a busy quilt already.

hudgoddess 04-27-2014 07:13 AM

I agree, simple quilting, Light swirly design. Great job on the scrappy!

sunrise450 04-27-2014 07:23 AM

Such a beautiful quilt! I have not been to Bonnie's site for awhile, think I will have to visit now!

NIICHMOM 04-27-2014 07:24 AM

I just went to Bonnie's page and picked that same Pattern out to put in my file... I am doing it in the old polyester knits...
My mom gave me ALOT of it, acouple of my grand kids love heavgy quilts, so this is what they are getting... It'll never wear out, but have to find a backing that will hold up to the knits...

wraez 04-27-2014 08:51 AM

Love Bonnie Hunter's patterns and your quilt turned out great!

Judie 04-27-2014 11:06 AM

I love your Chunky Churn Dash quilt!! I also made one, except I used a solid dark blue for the hour glass blocks. I was sure how it would look with a print. Now I know, it looks beautiful!!! I love this pattern!

Judie 04-27-2014 11:09 AM

OOPS, that was supposed to say that I was not sure how it would look with a print....

tuckyquilter 04-27-2014 11:50 AM

Just Beautiful. I love Scrappy and I love Bonnie Hunter.

Quilter 65 04-27-2014 12:01 PM

Beautiful quilt.

Rhonda Lee 04-27-2014 03:56 PM

Love it! Swirls or feathers would be my choice.

Pilgrim 04-27-2014 06:30 PM

Love this.

tesspug 04-27-2014 06:40 PM

Maybe quilt it in Baptist Fan.
