What fun! Now is the time to get all those bits of trim and beading out and put to good use. If it needs to be washable, there are poly satins (use with a light stabilizer) and velour can stand in for non-washable velvets.

This project sounds like it could be fun. Keep us posted on your progress.

Hmmm, I will be watching your progress with this one....
I'm in the SCA and in the process of trying to design a quilt for a friend of mine who just got a new house.
So far I have decided on a border( maybe chevron) in our household's colors (red n black), black 4 or 5" blcocks with the house symbol in silver around a huge circle that has his personal device in it. And a few blocks scattered in that have certain symbols that are important to him on it.
I was only going to make it a largish couch quilt tho'

I was thinking on the border to put his name, perhaps on the top, and then some of his titles and/or his affiliations within the SCA. I know he is a bard as well as a brewer and in the fighting but want to get it right.

Ok. This might be hard to see but it's a rough sketch of the medieval quilt. My friend in the SCA is a bard, a shipwright, a brewer, and a mercenary. So each side will represent an aspect of that and each corner will havethe shield for the kingdom, his, the ship, and the household.

I went to our local JoAnne's today and found some brocade that I might end up using. I have to try and figure out how much material I will need first, etc. I've attached two pix of what I found. They are hard to see though since I didn't have my camera with me and could only take it with my cell phone. How is brocade to work with? Would I need to back it on muslin or something or can it stand up by itself?

The pictures are of a red brocade with black flowers on it and then a silver and black brocade.

Talked to my friend and he has approved using something similar to:

for the back of the quilt. Then put a stylized L D in the middle. Would simplify the back at least. :)

Just have the headache pills handy. :) I think I might try and get a fat quarter or something of this so I can see it and feel it. Some lunch hour we should go to JoAnne's and I'll show you that brocade. After I get the sample from this though. Then I can match it up better.
