Can any one please tell me what size are kids book bag? I have my youngest GD and my Great Niece are both starting school next year and need book bags . I am going to make quilted bags with their names on them. What I do not know is---how big to make them. I did get a lot of fat quarters today from LQS for ( I don't believe it here in Australia) $2 each. I got different ones in pink and lavender purple with contrasting colors for each girl. I am giving them a zhuzhu pet in the bags. But having said all that I still don't know big to make the bags.

I do not recall but I have seen som cute tutorials on diffrent moms blogs, they may be worth looking up.

my daughters book bag is 17 inches tall X 13 wide X 4 deep.

A book bag and a Zhu zhu, what more could a little girl want! My neice is into these, too, and I didnt know what they were. Found one last night, and they are just adorable!

Please do NOT put their names on them where it is visible to others. A predator can get their name off the bag, call them by name, and pretend he knows them or is a family friend. This is recommended for anything a young child wears or carries.

I have always put my kids names on their bags. But they don't walk home and are never alone so that helps. Just remember when making their bags the little kids have smaller backpacks than the bigger kids. Just keep that in mind. Best of luck.

My kg grandson's bag is big enough to hold his take home folder (standard pocket folder). It will also hold his library book and a drink cup. His is a backpack, but is made like a messenger bag, with the flap, so he doesn't have to fuss with zippers or snaps. I think it has velcro strips to keep it closed. If you do a flap, you could put their names so they are covered by the flap, but still be personalized. :-D

Go to sports supply store and check their book bags. Nike makes them. www.sewbatik.com also has a pattern for a small bag.
Put name on the bag but somewhere it is not seen by the public. I'm waiting for a pattern/instructions to make them.
