This is a new applique project I started last week...it was fun to do. They are only 14" blocks so I'm thinking about taking them to the copy shop and having one enlarged. I cut them out like a hawiaiin quilt folded into 8ths. the second picture is the next one I'm starting and it has applique shapes in the blank spaces. I saw the tentmakers while at the AQS show in Grand Rapids...really fasinating to watch..(where is spellcheck on this)?????

I saw the tent makers in Lancaster, and you're right - they are fascinating! Looks like a great project!
thanks for the spell check LOL, ever have a brain freeze, I have them much too often....thanks for the video, they are so fun to talk to, sat with one in GR and talked for a few minutes...told him that must be the most decorated country in the world, he just laughed. It definately is an art and learned at a very early age. can't imagine free/hand cutting the pieces as I stitched...WOW
I love the Tentmakers of Cairo!! An amazing traditional art that translates into modern quilting so easily.
Isn't it wonderful, due to our ability to communicate with others around the world, that we are perhaps saving a precious skill that might have been lost and ensure a living for these talented artists.
WOW - you are off to a great start to a beautiful quilt. Keep us posted.
I saw the tentmakers in Grand Rapids also....just plain stunning.
I love your sample as well. I like your idea of enlargement on that pattern. |
