bookends for bazaars

I was cleaning out old albums this week (more declutter, 2 feet of space now empty!) and saw this image of something I made for the Portland Quilters Market about 30 years ago, they sold like hotcakes then although I don't know how many people still shelve books rather than download.
both the small and large metal bookends are dirt cheap, just draw a paper template and use up some of your orphan blocks or string blocks... I hand quilted some of the later renditions, now I'd machine quilt something. added value, 5 minutes time

Oh, that's a clever idea! I have moved to e-books for my fiction reading, but I still prefer hard copies for reference books. A pair of those would look nice on my crafting shelf, and they'd take up some scraps too.

Cute!! I still love my cook books and quilting books. What a genius idea!

Like others, I don't have as many books now ... but of course, there's the special ones that find a place on the book shelf, including photo albums and historical treasures.

I remember the bookends you are showing, and TBH don't know if they are in the stores any longer? or replaced by a not-so-good plastic product? Just might score these at a 2nd hand or thrift shop now!

I am a bit confused here!! ... after using your paper template, did you glue the fabric pieces to the metal? or did you make a slip cover for the bookend? If so, you sure got a nice smooth edge on those curved corners!
