I'm in the process of making this french braid, but, it is not long enough. Would you use 1/2 a braid for a border or go with the dark purple fabric for a border? Had I realized the length before hand, I would have added more colours to make the braids longer. I would love your input as, someone usually has great solutions. Or maybe I should use the smaller braid all the way around it for the borders. Also, I'm befuddled for quilting this...I usually echo the seams 1/4" on each side, but, I'm open to suggestions.

I like the dark purple, but I can't help with the quilting design. I am not very creative when it comes to coming up with how to quilt.

I would add a double border, one of the wine from your sashing and a wider, outside border of the deep purple. Will your back be a deep purple?

Definitely like the dark purple too, I think that would really make it pop!

I think your top is beautiful! I love the quilt colors, especially the graduations.

I'm not sure if the back will be dark purple or a mix of flannels. DH seems to think it should have flannel, therefore it would be a pieced mixture of stash.

I like the 1/2 braid and then maybe add the dark purple next to that.

I think one or two borders depending on how much longer you want it to be and I would use the yellow and dark purple.

Wow! That's pretty! I like the 1/2 braid, then the dark purple. As for the quilting...I was stumped when I did mine. I ended up doing FMQ in a curlicue wavy vine type of design. I drew up a design on a roll of paper the length of the braid, copied it onto Sulky Solvy with Crayola washable markers, pinned and did my stitching with variegated thread. I love how it came out. You trim away the larger parts of the Sulky Solvy when done and the rest washes out.

Echo quilting looks good on braids. My favorite is feathers, but I'm not that good yet!

Your choice as to the borders.

The most beautiful French Braid quilting I ever saw was curved so that at a distance the lines did look curved like a hair style french braid. It was awesome. The curves of the quilting made that quilt stand out.
