Border or no border?
1 Attachment(s)
Should I put a border on this quilt, if so what color? TIA
I would add a light boarder (like yellow or turquoise) then a black binding.
Yes, I think it should have a border, will give it a more finished look. Maybe a light yellow.
I think you could call the black and white your border, but if you want it bigger, I'd look at that purple with the flowers in the middle pinwheel.
I think a border would make it pop more!
I also thought the purple would look good.
I don't think it needs a border unless you would like it to be bigger.
I was thinking no border, but audition one at the corners and take a picture. That helps me sometimes.
I think a border like the light purple or maybe pink. Than black binding.
I like your design. |
I would put a border on it, both for design and for help in controlling the existing edges.
Beautiful work! |
A border would just mess up the nice thing you have going already. Not all quilts should have a border.
I would bind it with black binding and call it done! It is lovely, by the way :)
I'd put a black border on it the same width as your black and white sashing, with black binding.
I love your quilt! I have no border suggestions, other than I would put a border on it. I just wanted to tell you that is one sweet quilt!

Thanks for all the comments. I am leaning toward a turquoise border color. I will post it in pictures when I finish it. This is the second sampler quilt I have made as a project for our very small quilt group that meets once a month in my community. We have several beginners and for 2 years we have taken turns selecting BOMs for the group to do, making sure we covered lots of techniques and skill levels. My first sampler was made with Christmas fabric and I ran out of some of the fabric I was using so I choose to do the rest of the blocks with scraps but did not use white or cream as a background, that was a challenge. I have always wanted to do a black and white border technique so these few blocks were an experiment. I really like how they frame the blocks and add interest. Thanks again for the help deciding.

I wouldn't. How do you plan on binding it? Personally, I think a thin black binding would give it a nice, clean finished look. Sometimes less is better than more:)
No border.
I would add a border. I think any bold color would be great. The turquoise would be perfect. I love your sashing and corner stones. Nice finish.
ok...ok...ok....my personal preference would be red! I can see it against the black and white sashing/border. But here is something you might try...take colored construction paper and cut strips and place along the edge of the corner of the quilt to get an idea of what you'd prefer. The size of the border does not need to be cut 1/2" or whatever size you intend to use as you can cut the paper strips wider (for ease of use) and just place them under/behind the quilt to see which color you'd like best. Or maybe you'd have some quilt scraps just to test out. Good Luck!

I think it needs a border; maybe two or three. I really like a wide border of print that is cut and separated with another color. As in: one inch of the print, one inch of another plain, maybe black, and then three or so inches of the same print as the first one inch.

Yes, I really like maybe 2-3 borders to frame all these blocks.

I agree with those who have suggested a light border then Black binding. That would make it look more complete.
I would border it for no other reason than your binding will cut into the current edge. You could do colors and you could do a couple from the top. I would probably only do a simple black and do black binding. I would like to have the edge but not take the eye away from the wonderful top.
I think a thin inner border of the purple you have in one of your blocks and then a wider border of black. I always like a small inner border and then a wider border as I feel it frames your quilt. Love your beautiful quilt.
I think a light yellow boarder would look nice, it would set off all the other pretty blocks, very pretty quilt..

I agree that it calls for a border. If it were me, I would at least audition the lime green in your middle block in the 2nd row, then a black binding. I think that color would go well with most of your blocks.
Without at least a narrow border, your binding will affect the look of your super sashing and that would be a shame.
Piano key border in all the colors would be a great choice imo.
