Border problems

This problem is the opposite of having a wavy border and I suppose it is because I measured through the middle of the quilt.

Anyway, my question is ...can I fix this by pinning the quilt onto my big board & starching & pressing out the 1.5 inches of excess?

Or, what is the best way to fix this? I know that my blocks to form the first border were the correct size so the only thing I can think is that I didn't get a proper 1/4 " seam when I put the blocks together.

Thanks for the advice. I now have a piece of painters tape as a scant 1/4" seam guide as I think over time my mind shifted what I thought it was before.

I hate to take the final border off but it may be easier to do that than starch & steam.

I'd take it off, add a big chuck of boarder (so you won't have a 2" piece added) and put it back on. MUCH easier than starching, pressing and wondering if it will be okay -- generally fabric WILL spring back to the former shape. You would have to have it quilted pretty tight.....not worth it in my opinion.....take it off and start again.

i had this same problem and when i asked the board, the general concensus was to remove the offending border and start over. i will not be doing this, but i will be paying my long-arm quilter a little more money to be mindful of this mistake. hopefully, she will be able to ease in the slight ruffling. if not, and it looks really bad, i will trim the border down and hope that works. after i mention all of these "if's", maybe i need to take the border off after all! lol

(ps. i haven't touched it since i had asked the group about it.)
