Borders And Centers

1 Attachment(s)
I'm thinking of doing another Boxed Squares quilt, only this time I might put the same fabric in the center of each block as the sashing and borders.

I've been playing in my EQ5 and came up with this. Would it be boring if the centers were all the same. I've never done this before. Have you ever done a Boxed Squares like this?

quiltsRfun 12-28-2017 09:36 PM

I like it. The squares seem to be floating.

Tothill 12-28-2017 09:38 PM

I like it too.

pandamommy 12-28-2017 09:46 PM

I really like it. Go for it!

cathyre 12-28-2017 10:48 PM

This has given me a great idea for a quilt thank you .

lisalovesquilting 12-28-2017 11:34 PM

Looks good to me. If you like it go for it.

QuiltnNan 12-29-2017 03:25 AM

i think it's a great design

I like your design. The squares are fascinating on their own-batiks are like that; however, the center square, sashings and borders provide unity and allow the squares to be the star players. Nice idea. I also think the color for the sashings, borders and center is just perfect.

I like it too...the squares look like they are floating!!!

KenmoreGal2 12-29-2017 04:35 AM

I really like this idea too! I may have to copy it.

Joset 12-29-2017 05:13 AM

that will be fantastic

sprice 12-29-2017 06:03 AM

I love it. Go for it!

Boston, I love your arrangement.
Can you tell me where to find the pattern? I want to make that one ever since I saw the last one you made.

thimblebug6000 12-29-2017 07:57 AM

Hmm.... I guess I'm the odd one out here. The squares appear to have a hole in the middle to me, I prefer them with a centre scrappy fabric too.

Boston1954 12-29-2017 07:58 AM

Thanks for the advice and the nice comments. They do appear to be floating. I had not noticed it myself.

Sue, my sister gave me a book called Once More Around the Block. The pattern (under another name) is there. It can be made into about five different sizes. I like the 6 inch one. I will send the cutting sizes by email.

I think I would like for all the larger squares to be all alike too. Maybe I am just tired of all the scrappy blocks I have been making all year.

barny 12-29-2017 02:19 PM

That is a beautiful design. You have good bright colors in the squares. I love it. Go!

midwife 12-29-2017 02:34 PM

I like it. I say do it.

zozee 12-29-2017 03:36 PM

I like it fine, but I think what would be pretty to try is to replace the holes with various scraps from the squares.

Actually, that is what I did on the other 12. I had a different fabric in all the blocks. I just thought I would try something different.

jmoore 12-30-2017 04:28 AM

I think it looks great.

Becky's Crafts 12-30-2017 04:46 AM

It looks good to me! Good idea!

junegerbracht 12-30-2017 04:48 AM

I love it! Using background fabric in center of squares really ties it all together. How big are you going to make it?

lindaschipper 12-30-2017 05:31 AM

Another vote "for go for it" from me....looks pretty!

marymild 12-30-2017 05:41 AM

That is beautiful. I really like it.

maviskw 12-30-2017 06:23 AM

In the patterns I've seen for this, the large squares were sewn with the background sashing, then the background fabric small squares were added with raw edge applique. Did you notice that there are no seams showing in the larger squares?

Having the center squares the same as the background makes it seem like those large squares with the 'holes' in them are floating.

youngduncan 12-30-2017 06:26 AM

This is really a great quilt pattern to begin with. You have taken it a step further. I say go for it and be very proud of your results!!

salederer 12-30-2017 07:30 AM

I would go for it! Love the way it looks like the squares are floating. Please send a picture when it's completed!

kat13 12-30-2017 09:23 AM

I love this! It really showcases the beautiful fabric squares!!!

sewbizgirl 12-30-2017 09:27 AM

I love it. They don't look like centers at all... they look like part of the background and the squares have a square hole in the middle. Love the 3-dimensional look of it. Different colored centers would 'flatten' it.

madamekelly 12-30-2017 03:40 PM

That would look nice on plain white or black too.

vschieve 01-09-2018 02:28 PM

Love it! Colors are great.
