borders question.

Okay, now stir me but when cutting and doing sizing for my DDS new bed quilt I miss measured. Or at least miss calculated. Now this quilt was originally supposed to be full sized but now has to be a twin because we are having a third child and her and her bro are now going to share a room and bunk bed.
My question to you guys would be this.... is it okay to add fabric to the sides but not the top and bottom. The length is just fine. Go figure that out. I just don't know if I should mess with it or just be done. It will maybe tuck on the sides. Being bunk beds the top where my dd will sleep needs to be tucked under. Hope this is clear. Will post a pic of what I have now so you can help.

It' perfectly okay to add borders to the sides and not to the top or bottom. It's your quilt to make as you please.

I've done it on jillion times, although I usually put a really narrow border of the side border fabric at both top and bottom to balance it little. But it is your quilt. Do you what you need to do to make it work and then love what you've made. froggyintexas

It is your quilt and perfectly OK to add side borders to get it to the size you want! Nice quilt btw.

Just so you guys know. The top n bottom are the fat sections of fabric. The sides are the narrow.

It doesn't matter top or bottom, add where ever you want. Like they are all saying, "It's your quilt, do what you want". It's very pretty.

I usually don't like borders on the top. I think it looks much nicer than a wide band of fabric at the top. I would try to put something on the bottom just to balance the quilt but it is up to you.

I added a border to sides and bottom when I needed to make a quilt bigger. Looks fine to me. Go for it.

Glad to see this post. A friend of mine and I are getting ready to do the exact same thing to her quilt. Pretty quilt.

What a pretty quilt. Add length or width as you wish. The binding will bring it all together and give it that finished look.

I like to see how the quilt will look on the bed. We seldom see the entire quilt layed out flat. For most quilts a nice border (drape) on the sides and bottom looks balanced because pillows etc. come into play on the top. If this quilt is specifically for a bunk, there probably isn't much drape on the bottom or top, so a nice border on the side that shows as it hangs over the mattress would look nice.
