Is the quilt straight and flat before you add the borders?
If you cut the borders the length of the fabric (parallel to the selvedge) there's a lot less stretch, so you may have a better result.
Don't just sew the strip on, pin the entire length first.

I agree!
I pin both ends and pull it out and find the middle and pin that.
Then I take one end and the middle pin and find that middle and pin that middle and do the other end the same. Then I take the space between the pins, find the middle and pin that!
I find lots of pins work best.
I hope you can understand that!

:-D

Did you sqaure up the quilt prior to adding borders?

Checking your quilt for being "square" as you put the top itself together helps too. You can correct problems as you go :D:D:D

I mark the border and the side it goes on with pins at the half mark and subsequent 1/4 marks (sometimes even the 1/8 marks). Then I attach the border by matching the pins. IF there is any extra that needs easing in, it is distributed evenly. If there is any stretch, it is also matched across the length. Never had any problem.

I am fortunate enough to have a parquet floor of 6" squares. I can lay my quilt on the floor to check how straight & square it is. If needed I put my large mat on the floor and use my 36' ruler & largest square to square up the quilt.

After I measure the center dimensions for the borders, I fold both quilt & borders into ⅛ths and pin.

I measure both sides and the middle and cut my strips to the smallest measurement. After sewing those on, I do the same thing the other way. Works for me!
