Many times I've used different size borders. Its really up to you and there is no right or wrong.

Also.... if you posted a picture of your quilt top as is, I'm sure there are members who could suggest great border designs to help you along. I love putting borders of different widths on my quilts.

Sorry, I didn't get back to this posting, have you made any progress on your borders yet? Maybe a checkerboard and then the dark solid again?
