Borders ?
I sure hope this isn't a "stupid" question. I have been watching all of the border videos on youtube and am wondering which application you all use? Do you sew your borders together first or one at a time? I am putting 3 borders on my quilt.

If you want to miter the corners I would personally sew all the strips together, make them longer to allow for the miter, than sew them mitering the corners as you go. This would also work it you are adding a block to your corners. Just sew the strips together than figure out the lengths you need and add the block. There are many tutorials out there for doing either. :)

If I am not mitering, I put them on one at a time. Be sure to get the formula if you are mitering. You will need a lot longer border if you are, particularly if the total border is wide. I wanted to miter on my last one, but just didn't have the length.

Thank You!!

Make sure you have pressed your Bargello and be sure that it is square and edges are straight. Sometimes with so many tiny pieces, the edge of the quilt is not perfectly straight. Good Luck.

I sew multiple borders together and then apply. Lovely Bargello top!
If you sew multiple borders on one by one, each round tends to get bigger resulting in the dreaded rippled border effect. |
You may also want to stay stitch all around to stabilize all those little seams before adding your borders. It looks fantastic! Hard to believe it's your first quilt!

If I am not mitering the corners I usually sew them on one at a time. But if you miter the corners sew the tree border strips together first before sewing onto the quilt and just do one big miter at each corner

I don't miter the corners of my quilts. I think it is more complicated than sewing the borders on one at a time. If this is your first quilt, you may want to go simple. :) Just a though, and I am probably not average as I just finished my 74th quilt and still have no desire to miter the corners... I still count myself as an experienced beginner as I have been quilting four years.
