I love the oldies!!!

Landers 08-03-2011 08:56 AM

I listen to Sirius all the time. But try the RADClassic channel. I think it is 82. It plays all the old Radio shows!! Gunsmoke, Boston Blackie, Jack Benny Show, etc.... My favorite one to listen to.

Mornigstar 08-03-2011 08:57 AM

What timing. Yesterday picked up our new car and I immediately put on the Sirius Radio. My brother calls it Serious radio and has it in his condo.
I am trying to find that 50 on 5 but I would have to move sewing to the car.

klgreene 08-03-2011 09:09 AM

This sounds just like me too - audio books are the greatest, I only would get a chance to read a book when on an airline flight which wasn't often, now I've "read" lots - one of the latest was THE HELP - movie due out soon!!! can't wait....

I have Sirius Radio in the car that I bought at the end of last year. It came with 3 free months. Now I know why!!! I cannot stand to listen to regular radio anymore. Mostly I listen to 50's on 5 or 60's on 6. It so nice not to have all the yada, yada, yada now in the car while driving. Wish I had it in the house too!!!

Jingle 08-03-2011 12:13 PM

I have a TV hanging on the wall above the sewing machine, I only watch or listen to HGTV or DIY. I just like the noise.

nannyrick 08-03-2011 01:02 PM

I remember it well. Nothing like it.

chuckbere15 08-03-2011 03:28 PM

I love my iPod. It's wireless and goes to the Bose speakers and I can jam when quilting. Sometimes I just do not realize I have been sewing for hours. Music makes me happy.

Wrylymax 08-03-2011 03:56 PM

I love you baaaby, and if it's quite alright I need you baaaby to warm the lonely night . . .

Good music!

delma_paulk 08-03-2011 05:44 PM

You can get free radio on your computer by logging onto PandoraRadio.com. You choose the type of music you like, set the volume and enjoy!

I use it on my laptop and just close the lid and its great!

debbieumphress 08-03-2011 06:11 PM

Bringing back memories. I love oldies shows and watch TMC and love to listen to audio books too. Music distracts me because I want to jump up and dance so best to stick to my old movies and books on cd.
Direct tv has music channels for 50's, 60's etc so that is ok for some. What a fun topic.

debbieumphress 08-03-2011 06:12 PM

Oops double post.

vickig626 08-03-2011 06:13 PM

I have to say my favorite music of all time is from the 50s. It's just so upbeat and brings back some great memories. I was actually a teen in the 60s but loved the older music. Don't understand why the current radio stations rarely play it.

My little TV is at my back when I'm sewing, but there are many shows I enjoy just listening to. I listen to cooking shows, pray with EWTN, and when I'm hand stitching --OR RIPPING -- I swivel in my chair and watch a bit. I even listen to movies. BUT I do enjoy working in silence. Of course, occasionally I hear my own voice.

That works!
But I like audio books free from the library, those make the boring time fly by!

Sandra in Minnesota 08-03-2011 06:43 PM

I might have to invest in Sirius radio.

Ditto - I can go thru several audio books while quilting. I hook my iPod up to external speakers and I can hear the book while sewing or pressing....love it!

Gramily 08-03-2011 07:25 PM

I am an audio book junkie too. have you read Cutting for Stone, Sarah's Key just to name a few? let's share the names of awesome books.

karate lady 08-03-2011 08:25 PM

wanda lou 08-03-2011 10:46 PM

I love 60's on 6 and 80's on 8.

Yep, I do. About a year ago or so, I finally bought a radio/record player setup and have enjoyed listening to my old vinyls.... Beatles, Peter Paul & Mary, Mac Davis, Anne Murray, etc. and my husband's older Bobby Darin and the like. Plus, I have my brother's old jazz type albums such as Sergio Mendez and Herb Alpert and I even have some classic Placido Domigo, etc. . I have really been enjoying listening to this array of music. Really got tired of the "new" Country music so I had to find something else to listen to.

You bet - have a huge collection of albums - rock, blues, soul - and a great sound system dating back to the early seventies...but my speakers are a goner, blew 'em out on the Doors. Oh well...

wraez 08-05-2011 07:46 PM

Oh I enjoy music too ... sometimes I crank up my playlist on the computer and sing and dance to it, but while sewing can be dangerous, LOL.

Other than that I love to listen to books on CD while I'm piecing, or even straightening my sewing area.

Just finished The Hunger Games and wow what an exciting book, very popular right now. It is the first in a trilogy

tryitall 08-07-2011 09:42 AM

YES! We have it and I love it. I have my sewing machine upstairs and no TV so I don't get it when I am sewing. Would love to tho!

wraez 08-07-2011 10:43 AM

TV ... I have 2 in viewing distance of my sewing machine but find unless I absolutely have to sew and watch a program that I don't want to miss, I prefer to NOT have the tv on. I get less sewing done cuz I keep looking up to see the TV.

So music or a book on cd means more gets accomplished at the sewing machine.

Karenowc 08-07-2011 12:33 PM

I also listen to sirus radio in the car. In my studio, I either have on the TV or listen to music, books on DVD or podcasts (quilting, scrapbooking and computer ones).

I really got into Cutting for Stone too, Like to listen to the
Elm Street Quilters - just seems appropriate. My favorite book so far though has been "The Help" looking forward to the movie! That book also inspired me when making my Quilting Fairy God Mother!
