Bottle for oiling sewing machine.
 

What do you put sewing machine oil in that has a spout to help place sewing machine oil where you want it? I have a couple of vintage machines that I would like to oil more often, but my Singer oil has a little short tip that makes a mess when I try to put a small amount in a certain spot.

I have a really nice one that I got from Kimberly who is my OSMG (old sewing machine gal) in Katy. It has a long spout that you can pull out to whatever length you need. I don't remember the name of the oil, I'll have to look when I get home. It's the oil she recommended for my FW.

Okay, I'm home and checked. I use Zoom Spout by Alpha Sews with a telescoping spout.

My experience with every extending-spout oil I've had is that they're messy. They drip oil every time I pull out the spout (because it's covered with oil) and I always end up over-oiling because it drips so much and there's not much control over it (because the spout is covered with oil). Bad design, IMO.

Here's what I use. It's very inexpensive and refillable, and it's very easy to apply one single drop at a time. Just google "sewing machine oil syringe".

Totally agree with Peckish. Hate the spout thing...what a mess.
I also have the same precision pen point oiler. I got it from
amazon...so much better.

I have a bottle with a pull out spout. You pull the spout out, take off cap, oil machine, put cap back on and push spout down into the bottle. It works great and is not messy. I get a drop of oil, unless I keep squeezing the bottle. I don't remember where I got it, been about 8 or 9 years.

That's the kind I have, Phyllis. It works well for me and I like it. Not messy at all.

Eye drop bottles with a controlled dropper tip plug work well. I keep one with each of my machines.

Check a store like Harbor Freight or Lowes or Home adepot.

I just use a regular 3 cc syringe (with a needle). They are less than a dollar at any farm store. I keep one with each machine.

I have the same pen shaped syringe that Peckish has for my domestic. For my longarm I use the zoom spout and have no issues with it being messy or putting out too much oil but my LA takes the larger M size bobbin so the bobbin race is also larger and I am not trying to squeeze into a super small area like my domestic.

Patrice S, I loved Kimberly, your Old Sewing Machine Gal, in Katy, Tx when she taught a workshop on Featherweight maintenance at our Guild. I was so disappointed to learn she is closing her shop and moving -maybe to Montana. I live probably 3 hours away and could not go drool over other vintage machines she is selling. She and her husband did a wonderful job of walking a room full of ladies through cleaning and oiling our featherweights.

Oh, no! She's closing her shop! I still haven't gotten the Rocketeer to her to look at. I'm so sad. I took her Featherweight maintenance class and it was awesome.

Patrice S, she and her husband were super patient with all of us and helped us take apart and then reassemble the machines. I would never have had the nerve to attempt it if they had not been there to help. You need to visit one more time and see if they have any homeless vintage machines that need adoption. Lol Don't wait!

I found some at Hobby Lobby--they have a cap to put on when not in use. They were on sale too.

All auto stores have the refillable needle nose oil pens. I found a few in DH's tool box and they work great. I guess he never used them, he hasn't said anything about them being missing.

Peggi got me this syringe for Christmas one year, and extended-spout oilers are a thing of the past in my sewing room. This syringe seriously rocks at oiling! Pinpoint precision, and nothing comes out until I squeeze the tube!

I have something altogether different made especially for Singer Featherweights. "NOVA'S Motor Lubricant". Comes in a tube with an applicator tip for easy use. Works great on my machine!

I like the syringe for oiling, will order it. I have a question about the motor lubricant, isn't that the grease that is used on the featherweight motor? I did not know you can use it in place of oil. Is this what you do? Tell me, I have some, if it works on the machines, I might try it!

That's for the motor only to fill those pots with wicks by the motor. It's a grease, not an oil. You need to use oil in the oil spots - regular sewing machine oil. It's available everywhere sewing stuff is sold.

If you've used it in place of oil on your featherweight, I would contact Nova and ask her what to do now. It may need to be removed. I'm not an expert, so I can't give you an answer to that question, but grease in place of oil is a no-no.

You can buy the oil with a pull out tube at Wallyworld or Joann's.

I use a medical syringe with needle, you can put the oil just where you need it without having it run all over the machine.
