Bought a Featherweight!
I just bought a Featherweight, and besides being excited to take it for a spin, it needs a cleaning and oiling and belt. The belt still works but it is looking stiff. The baby works fine it seems so what's my question? I live in the St Louis area and would like some suggestions on where to take it for service and education on cleaning and regular maintenance. Any ideas? I just want to be a good Mom and thought some expert advice would send me in right direction. Thank you in advance for any help offered! Raine54RN

Congrats on your Featherweight. I have a small collection of them, and highly recommend that instead of paying for service, you instead invest in David McCallum's DVD set. You will learn how to do it all yourself, for less than the typical cost of a Featherweight tuneup. There is currently a special deal which includes free shipping. No affiliation, just a very satisfied customer.

Thank you for the feedback. Went to Davids site(also thank you for the link), and I see why this is a good option. I also have a 301, so I'll get double my money's worth! I believe I'll order that new belt I need too. Happy sewing, Best Regards, Raine54RN

also on QB you can find tute for cleaning and oiling and greaseing, also can download instructions from several sites on care of and how to thread and so forth. Their isn't much to learn, except where to grease and where to oil and not mix up those spots. I took black liquid shoe polish to my case, made it come alive. Have fun and enjoy your new baby.

I have a black & a white FW. When I got each one, I took them apart and cleaned them myself. Oiled and greased them. Tightened the belt if needed. Cleaned the bobbin area. It wasn't hard at all. They both purr like kittens. I don't use them very often, but they run beautiful

All great suggestions! Another good resource is Nova Montgomery (http://www.novamontgomery.com/singer...-the-month.htm). I took her class last year and it was excellent. Have fun and enjoy your new baby. Betty

Congratulations. I just spent 3 days sewing with one of ours at a quilt retreat. So much nicer than trying to work with big machine because space was tight. The stitches were as nice as theirs or better.
