Bought a Featherweight!
 

I just bought a Featherweight, and besides being excited to take it for a spin, it needs a cleaning and oiling and belt. The belt still works but it is looking stiff. The baby works fine it seems so what's my question? I live in the St Louis area and would like some suggestions on where to take it for service and education on cleaning and regular maintenance. Any ideas? I just want to be a good Mom and thought some expert advice would send me in right direction. Thank you in advance for any help offered! Raine54RN

Congrats!!!!! I agree David McCallum's DVD ser is well worth it! I have them and his book.

The newer manual for the Featherweight, has alot in it about maintenance, thats what I use.

Very good advice. They are simply but masterfully constructed. I also have a small collection of them and just love them.

I have actually taken a FW class from David. He is the most knoweable person I know. The DVD is perfert to use for maintance on your FW

also on QB you can find tute for cleaning and oiling and greaseing, also can download instructions from several sites on care of and how to thread and so forth. Their isn't much to learn, except where to grease and where to oil and not mix up those spots. I took black liquid shoe polish to my case, made it come alive. Have fun and enjoy your new baby.

A good car mechanic does mine........oil, wax, change the belt........gives him something to putter with.......my DH.........calla

I have a black & a white FW. When I got each one, I took them apart and cleaned them myself. Oiled and greased them. Tightened the belt if needed. Cleaned the bobbin area. It wasn't hard at all. They both purr like kittens. I don't use them very often, but they run beautiful

Congratulations. I just spent 3 days sewing with one of ours at a quilt retreat. So much nicer than trying to work with big machine because space was tight. The stitches were as nice as theirs or better.
