Bow Tuck Help
 

I need some advice from the seasoned Bow Tuck experts. I've been putting the pellon on the handles and it seems so thick I'm having trouble stitching it. Do you use the pellon and do you put the full 5 inches on the handles? I making these to sell and I want them to look good but I'm going to have to remove all my stitching and do it over using my walking foot to hopefully stop the skip stitches. I'm using a Sharps 80/12, do I need a Jeans needles, maybe a 90/14?

I use half the amount it calls for. They have worked fine. I also use cotton batting and spray baste. I'm a use what you have on hand kind of quilter:)

Yep, this is exactly what I do. :) I had the same problem with the bulk in the handles so I cut the width in half and it worked a treat.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm headed back to the sewing room to fix these handles. Never thought about the cotton batting and spray. I have plenty of that so that's a good idea!

I use the whole 5" for the fusible fleece and then use my walking foot. It is a chore for my Brother LB6800 but my old Singer goes right through it, no skipped stitches.

I use less, they were just too bulky and odd looking with what the pattern called for .

I made one with 5"'s and the darn straps won't stay on my shoulders. I wish I had made the straps a little less wide.

I use fusible fleece pellon 987 in all of my bags and am very happy with the final result. Still gives the bag good stability and is not as bulky as regular pellon.

I always use 5" pellon but I always have my walking foot on my 6600. I use a 90/14 for sewing and piecing.
