Brand New BabyLock Symphony
I was at the local fabric store today and walked out with a brand new sewing machine. At the moment, I have my turkey soup, and my laptop out looking at the boards. As soon as the soup is gone, I'm ready to dig into the manual and figure out what I just bought. Any other Symphony owners out there - any tips or advice on my new machine would be very welcome. I'm excited to get going, but starving - so got to eat first!

Hi,
I have a Symphony, got her when they first came out (two years this fall) and I absolutely positively LOVE it!! I just can't think right off the top of my head what I love about it the most as I basically have no negative issue with it at all. It sew through layers like nothing, is so user friendily, threads like a dream, and just has so many features I know I haven't used them all yet! If you have any questions or anything I can help you with don't hesitate to contact me, probably by PM as I don't always get on here to read posts. You will love your Symphony. I also have the Elegante2 that I use for embroidery mostly...but did get my Symphony because I loved sewing so much on my Elegante....very similar machines in features other than the embroidery. I think you will be so happy you went to that local fabric store and walked out with your machine! Bev |
I own the Brother Lauren Ashley that is the twin to the Symphony. I have owned it for over two years and I love it. It has a nice size throat, a lot of decorative stitches, an awesome lettering mode which I use on spit rags, and it came with many, many feet. When you use the clip on table it came with, it gives you a nice working surface. It is very user friendly. I think you will love it.

I bought the Babylock Serenade this year and am in love with that machine. I think you will quickly fall in love with your Symphony. Have fun and create nice things!

OK, you guys are making me feel pretty good about this. I had been going from dealer to dealer and checking out the various brands, but I just stumbled over what I hope was a good deal (not going to say - because maybe it wasn't, but no use worrying about that now:)
I'm not sure I love the quilting foot with the guide - that little piece of metal just seems to restrict my vision. I assume that with a little time and practice, I'll like it better. I was making these cute little chalkboard fabric placemats for my nieces this morning, and ended up getting out my older Pfaff to finish them up as I was struggling a bit with the feet on the new machine. I don't get my first lesson for another week, but that won't stop me from learning what I can. Already broke - and replaced - my first needle! |
Hi
I am guessing you were using the 1/4 foot with the guide........never used it. In my utility stitches I set the first one # 1-01 to a scant quarter inch, 6.0 width 2.5 length, put it in the memory and this is what I use to piece all my quilts. I just hit the button and it always goes to my setting. I use my J pressure foot and sew with the edge of my foot on the edge of the fabric. I usually do my piecing with a scant 1/4 so that's it is a true qtr. after pressing. I used the 1-01 as I like to lock my stitches when I need to with the back and forward stitches. There is a quilting 1/4 stitch that is 5.5 setting that you can just use your J foot too, in the Q stitches of utility ones. How did you break a needle? Bev |
Thanks so much - I worked with the foot with the guide some last night, and getting better with it, but I will definitely check out your advice.
