Brand of Serger Thread
I am taking classes to learn to better use my serger...only set around here six or seven years. What is your favorite brand of serger thread and where do you find it? I have a few cones of Maxi-Lock and the instructor likes the brand. My experience is limited. I want the best for the least. Thank you

I am no serger expert, but I recently picked one up at a flea market for $35 ( and it works!). I just bought Maxi Lock from Hancock Fabrics. Seems to be what I noticed most people using when I was researching my machine.

Maxilock is the best. You can do alright with SureLock. But some of that thread is too stiff for a serger. The problem we have with cheap serger thread is that it will break (the one that is just labeled 100% polyester -- no brand name on the label). Or the lock stitch that's supposed to stay along the edge, will wave from front to back. I was trying to sew-off a serger with Guterman serger thread, and about every 2 feet of thread, it would twist and form a loop that would pop through the tension, and mess the stitch up every time it would do it. Stick with Maxilock if you can.

i get my thread at superior threads for my serger. it works a whole lot better since
i been using their thread |
I'm lucky because my machine will take all threads, serger, heavy, metallic, etc but I have somw Maxi loc for over 20 yrs and started using it with my new serger and it still works great. You can get good sell prices on it too. Love the varigated too.

Been using maxi loc for 30+ years, never saw any reason to look for something else, it is readily available and inexpensive. Our Joanne fabrics carries it.

Don't feel bad. I bought a Babylock serger and it has sat around the house for over 20 years unloved.

I use my server all the time. MaxiLock is what I use most of the time. It's easy to find and works great.

I just glanced over at my serger, which I use several times a week, all the thread on it is Maxi Lock.

My serger likes the thread I bought at JoAnn's when it was $1 a cone. It's a good thing the machine is not cranky! froggyintexas
