I see that some of my great grandmothers quilts have some broadcloth in them and they seem to holding up well, but I talked to a nice lady at Joann's yesterday who said no no no to broadcloth for quilting.

Anyone have some firsthand experience or advice?

I find it is a little thin. I pass it up for a little heavier weight fabric. Buy a small piece and make a small project and see it you like it or not. There are no right or wrong....just personal preferences:)

I do use it..... but preferr cotton. But , I rarely make heirloom quilts

I'm a newbie, so I'm just having fun, making small projects and playing with ideas. To be honest I don't even really follow patterns 100%.

Is broadcloth not cotton?

If you can find good quality broadcloth, it can be used in quilting. Keep these factors in mind: best to use either all broadcloth or all cotton in a top... It will not fade or get soft... be careful with the iron. That said, I have used it for children's every day quilts and they really take the wear and tear. They also wash well and don't wrinkle as much as cotton. My niece is using her baby quilt for her son for a play quilt. It's 25 years old and still going strong.
