I put a post-it note on my machine when I've been using the straight stitch foot so that I remember NOT to zig zag.
I've got Berninas 930 and 1031. I've done what you did and thankfully my machine didn't do what yours did. Sharon in Texas |
I don't know Berninas, but if yours is computerized do not use a magnet near it. A magnet can wipe your programming right out of the machine. Vacuum, tweezers, or anything else that you can use will be much better for the machine. When you take the plate off, if the problem is not obvious, a call/trip to the dealer is in order.

Thank you all for your suggestions! I think I need to take it in, darn it. I'm staying with my 95 year old friend who still hand appliques and quilts and machine pieces - she's amazing - so I'm not able to spend time on the forum right now. I'll be home next week. See you all then!

All but the oldest computerized machines have a shielded motherboard. A magnet pincushion, or small magnet around the needle area won't effect it.

Welcome to the board. I did that to my 150QE also bought new about 15 years ago (also a workhorse and LOVE it). I was lucky enough to do it while it was still under warranty. I definitely through the machine out of timing. But I did not have an issue with the pressure foot not coming all the way down. Bummer but best to be safe and take your baby to the pros and have them fix it. I suspect your timing may be off and you may have even whacked the needle bar out of position. ouch, but not to worry, they will surely fix her right as rain in no time (however will seem like an eternity to you).

I have a computerized machine also, a Babylock. I made it a habit to always press the reset button any time I am changing presser feet, anytime I am changing from one decorative design to the next. and anytime I go from embroidery back to regular sewing, and vice versa. The machine goes back to the default set up of straight stitch, needle in the center, and presser foot height back to default setting also. Then I press the needle up button to make sure that is done for changing threads and presser feet.
