Broke Quilt Foot- Do I really need it for QAYG?

I broke my machine foot while working on this quilt as you go block. Do I really need it for 11 inch blocks? Or should I stop and wait for a new one?

Thanks.

What foot did you break?

Walking foot? I would get a new one. Quarter inch? You can use the side of a wider foot for a guide.

Thanks.

The walking foot helps to slide your quilt sandwich evenly thru with out bunching and etc. It can be done without though a little tougher. I would be tempted to try one and make sure it turns out how you would like it.

well you can always stitch with another. you just want to make sure your presser foot isn't pressing down too hard and moving the top fabric. sometimes just using a longer stitch length prevents this. Good luck.

If you can adjust your pressure you will probably be okay without a walking foot.

Right, loosen the presser on your foot a number or two that should make it easier to feed the bulk of the block thru without the drag...

Silly me, I was ready to offer condolences on your broken ankle, or toes or whatever...glad this isn't THAT serious!

It has been my experience with quilt as you go, and making rag quilts, that a waking foot works much better. When my quilting foot broke, I tried to quilt without it, but learned pretty fast that I didn't like the results, and went out and bought a new one. When working with the sandwiched blocks, the quilting /walking foot feeds through much better, at least on my old machine.

I have glue basted my QAYG and it worked wonderfully without a walking foot.
