Broken Thread Spool

1 Attachment(s)
Has anyone else had this happen? Not sure how, but the plastic bottom of this cone has broken off. Any ideas to fix it? I really don’t want to lose this whole cone of thread!

If you have an empty spool, I would try carefully inserting it inside the broken one.

This has only happed with the Connecting Thread cone thread I have. Frustrating and a big hassle. I ended up tossing it after spending too much time trying to save it.

I have had this happen and even trying to put it onto an empty cone the loss of thread was not worth it because of the time I spent trying to fix it. If it were an expensive cone I would contact the seller they may make good on it if it is not to old. Other than that I would toss it.

Broken cone~

Thanks for the suggestions. I was able to cut off the mess, just kept pulling cut ends and pulling cut ends till it quit, and I was lucky to find ONE end! Turned the spool over, made 4 bobbins - very slowly - and I now think I can use the rest of it. I didn’t really lose too much, at least I didn’t lose the entire cone. I added about an inch of cardboard tube into the spool, and it worked. Spent about 15 minutes is all. But YAY didn’t have to toss!

I've also had that happen on a number of Connecting Thread cones that I bought for longarming. I have been intending to contact them about it, since it has never happened on any other brand of thread cone, and these were just sitting in a drawer, never used. I think there must have been something wrong in the manufacturing.

My cones of Connecting Thread seem very brittle and thin compared to other brands I have. I stopped buying the cones from them.

I never use cones as I just use DSM.

I use cone thread when piecing using a thread stand. Most brands the cones are more economical then the spools.

Connecting Threads would probably welcome the feedback so they can fix the problem. As OnebyOne said, she stoppen using them because of this problem. Loosing customers is a big deal.
