Brother machine reviews please....

My daughter lives on the west coast and has thought about buying a sewing machine...just a good basic machine. I wondered if anyone on here has any of their cheaper machines...and what your experience has been with them. How much have you sewn on the one you have. I was just sure that I had seen some really positive reviews of Brother machines on here, but was not sure of the models/cost. I am not sure how much she would get to sew, but would hate for her to get something that gave her a lot of problems.

Also, feel free to voice opinion about any machine you have...

She has sewn and made one lap quilt...or the blocks to one quilt as you go quilt and I put the blocks together. And she also helped make a baby quilt for one of her friends. So she has sewn, but not very much.

Below is the quilt she made...all her own idea. Her own choices of fabric.

I have the Brother 1500 and it's a great straight stitch machine. I have not one complaint about it. No worry about being a big repair bill for it either, nothing to mess up.

I know when I got my Juki it was a toss up between it and your machine...I have never heard anything bad about the Brother 1500.

That being said, I was hoping for one with zigzag and a few decorative stitches..and cheaper...hopefully $3-400. I would hate for her to put a lot of money in something and then find she didn't use it. I have mentioned Janome to her, also. And that may be the best way to go but still wanted to investigate the Brothers.

I have the Brother 1500 also. It is a fantastic machine. It is only straight stitch, but is perfect for a quilter. It has needle down and a thread cutter built in too. It sews any thread I have ever tried.

I had a Brother CS5055PRW, and had it for 4 years before I sold it because my husband got me Brother XR9500 Project Runway Series for Mother's Day. I also have a Brother SE 425 Sewing/Embroidery Machine that I got myself as a Christmas present. Last but not least, I have an older Brother 2010, that I bought used from a lady in my area. The machine was very well kept. I've not had any problems whatsoever. I enjoy them all. Hope that helps!

I have a Brother CE7070 (Project Runway limited edition, it says - must be super special...) It's definitely not one of the high-end machines; it cost me less than $150. I just started quilting in January and wanted something basic to start out with so that I wasn't out much if I decided that quilting wasn't my thing. Well, it turns out that I fell HARD for this hobby, and have finished several quilts (piecing and quilting) on this machine already. No problems at all! I keep thinking that I should be either wearing it out or outgrowing it, but I think it's going to last quite awhile!

My brother was about 240 $ from kens sewing center. Its a 600ex. Good little machine. plenty of fancy stitches and does a good straight stitch also. I have fmq on it, just baby quilts and wall hangings. does good.

I have a Brother Quattro. It is their top of the line and embroidery/sewing. I love it. I've had it for 5 years now and except for its yearly cleaning it has not gone to the shop. I know you are asking about less costly and just sewing but i thought I should mention the quality of Brother machines no matter the size and cost.
