Brother Scan and Cut VS the Brothee Scan and Cut 2
 

I have searched the board but really didn't get the answer I was looking for so maybe someone can help me. I had done acrapbooking in the past and have a regular Cricut and a Cricut expressions. I know I can cut fabric with the expressions bit am limited to what cartridges I have. I also have an accuquilt GO. I went to a nearby Brother dealer to look at the scan and cuts. The owner was there and told me the new scan and cut 2 was out and may be more of what I need. I want something so I can make my own appliqués for pillows, wall hanging and quilts. Things that I will never find on a Cricut cartridge or accuquilt die. She told me the scan and cut 2 can cut out an entire quilt. I asked if she could demo it for me and all she did was cut out her name in vinyl. I tried to explain than I wanted to see how the scan and cut on fabric feature worked and she said she had a class starting soon and to come back. But she told me that the 2 is absolutely what I needed.

With that being said, I would like to hear from people that have different die cutters and even had experience with the scan and cut and also the scan and cut 2. I'm just not sure if I need the 2. Goo thing about the shop is you can finance it or put it on layaway.

Didn't even know that a second model has come out. You really have to go and see one demonstrated. The running instruction are very detailed. I have seen it demo and it appeared to me to be more of an applique cutter.

I have the Silhouette Cameo and an Accuquilt. I bought the Cameo as I don't need a scanner. I have one. I also have Photoshop and can edit so I need no extra software but what applies to the cutting. Thirdly; I do my own designs.
I also have Illustrator and can save SVG files. Since I mostly do greeting cards and have my own artwork on most, the Silhouette is enough. If I wish to applique, I can use the Silhouette to cut it, or I can use the old Babylock Quiltworks which allows you to import designs and let the embroidery machine do most of the work.

If I want to cut 72 4 inch squares for a quilt, the Accuquilt, Sizzix or Fuze will do a better job. You can cut up to 6 layers of fabric at a time and if you have a multiple cut die (4 squares), you can do 24 at one clip.

Since I'm lucky enough to have programs and peripherals that help with designs, I don't need Brother's and can purchase a cutter only. If you don't have the equipment, then the Brother can be ideal. Just not for 24 4 inch patches at one clip.

I have the original so I can give you information on #2. You can easily scan in any drawings and make applique from them. Brother also has a website Canvas with many fonts, and shapes that you can use. There are numerous youtube videos. I think that would be the best for you to decide.

Apparently there are two model #2s.

The only difference between the 2 and the original is the 2 has wireless connectivity(don't need to use usb drive), the editing screen is larger, and you can scan the 12x24 mat instead of just cutting on it. This is only the dealer model, the hsn models do not have the scanning feature and the wireless has to be purchased separately. The 2 cost now aqbout what the original cost over a year and half ago when I purchased it. It is a nice machine and I have already used it more than my sizzix big shot but I always found the dies expensive and restrictive size wise

There are lots of videos including ones that show you the differences in them. The 2 has wifi, a larger editing screen, more designs and a few other things that are added but you also loose some things. Go to Brother's website and under the scan and cut you can compare the ones they have. For me the wifi isn't enough to get me to buy another one or the larger screen. I have the accuquilt and the scan n cut and love them both. I use my go mainly for the rag quilting where my daughter likes it to cut her 8in blocks for quilts. The scan n cut is great for all types of projects and with help from all of those videos out there the learning curve is not as steep as it used to be. Any accessories that come with the scan n cut can be used with all of them and you can buy what ever doesn't come with it.
