I have a Brother XR-52 machine and have a free motion foot, but cannot get the tension adjusted for free motion quilting. The loops are on the bottom, no matter what I set the thread tension to. I have a new needle, but quilting thread and regular thread give the same results.

When the walking foot or other feet are attached, the machine does a beautiful job of nice even stitches.

Any suggestions?

did you drop or cover the feed dogs? did you remember to lower the presser foot? are you moving the fabric too fast?
