Do you have the same trouble??
What thread do you use??
Do you stick to the Brother thread??

I don't know about Brother machines, but Gutterman and other European-made threads are wound differently than standard American spools. Ideally, they should be fed to the machine horizontally. American spools are fed the way we've seen them for years. My Bernina will take Gutterman and other European threads with the spool sitting up, but your machine may be sensitive to the angle from which the thread comes.

Another possibility is that the Gutterman is incompatible with your thread guides. It may be too fragile for the amount of back-and-forth in the thread path, or the thread guides themselves may be rough.

I would simply experiment with other brands of thread to see what works.

Thanks Prism99, I appreciate your input. You could well be right on the way the thread is wound, I hadnīt even thought of that. I know that it causes a lot of trouble in my machine.

By the way I always clean out the bobbin area thoroughly, so its got to be the type f thread as I use the same in the bobbin as well. As soon as I go to another thread it stops breaking and tangling at the back.

you can test the horizontal thread thing by having someone (dh?) hold it in that position for you while you try a few stitches.
