BSR problems with Bernina 440 QE
 

I have given up using my BSR on Bernina 440QE for free motion quilting. When engaging the BSR, I find it to be jerky and very difficult to control. I took it to my Bernina service person and he said it was fine! Told me to use
King Tut thread. Ok, I have been doing all the things he suggested but still not a smooth feeling.
My friend has the same machine, so we compared machines and I was shocked at how smoothly her
BSR operated. She tried my machine and said it has a jerky movement.
Has anyone encountered the same problem. I guess I could take the machine to Bernina shop one more time and voice my concerns. Thanks!

Bummer! The BSR isn't supposed to be jerky. I have one and it's like your friend's. Thread has nothing to do with it. I use Aurifil so far (just got my machine in May)

Don't give up on this wonderful device! I would take it back and demand better attention to the problem.

I am wondering if you are jerking your hands slightly? It's a common mistake when learning FMQ..I was told it was because my mind was working faster than my machine..it's kind of like a car ..if you punch the gas pedal, there is a split second of hesitation before the car can catch up, but if you accelerate slow and evenly, your car responds well.I had to practice really hard at slowing down my mind and getting in sync with speed. I found it was happening to me when I had to change direction or angle of whatever I was stitching. Once you find your sweet spot between hands and machine, you'll love it!

sounds like your BSR is wonky!

I always have problems with mine however, I think is what donna says, you have to practice to get hands and feet going together.

My thoughts exactly. Have them use your BSR on one of their machines. Then have them compare your BSR and one of theirs on your machine.
Did you buy your BSR from a Bernina dealer? I am asking because there are knock off Bernina parts available online. A friend bought a "Bernina" walking foot online which turned out to be a knock off, not a genuine Bernina part, and it doesn't work right. What a waste of money! She ended up buying another one from a Bernina dealer and loves it.

I haven’t really used my BSR that much but as with regular FMQ a rhythm needs to occur. Even though the whole point of a BSR is to compensate it can get uneven stitches in turning corners too fast or changing speeds often.

Mine wasn’t plugged in properly on my first attempt..... make sure the the plug is pushed in far enough
