You might try to find an older, proven machine. I have a workhorse of a machine--a 1958 Singer 401A. It comes with cams which will do almost anything the newer machines will do for around 250-400.
just wondering if you have good luck with FMQ on this machine? I have one but haven't tried it for that except a practice stitch or two
