Bulky seams?

I'm working on a mini Ohio starlit quilt and I'm noticing the seams are pretty bulky. Is it okay to cut some of that excess fabric (not past the sewing line) but just a little, say triangle snip so that the seams aren't so bulk? Or would that weaken the seam structure too much? I'm just worried when I quilt it that it's going to be a pain to get my needle past these areas.

Have you tried pressing your seams open? I think with smaller blocks that really helps a lot, just remember to shorten your stitch length. As to smaller seam allowances, I have made some smaller when and where needed in order to keep points. I have also sliver trimmed where lots of points are coming together such as a Kaleidoscope block etc. . Just keep in mind that if the quilt is a wall hanging it may not matter as much as one that is going to be used a lot as a smaller seam may not hold up as well. Your project sounds wonderful, and we hope you share it with us.

I grade the seams when they are going to meet in bulk. A great visual is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYLI...FatQuarterShop at the 3:20 time mark.

Thanks for posting this link. I never heard of this & will be trying it out.

Watch to the end and see how you still get a 1/4" seam when the pieces are sewn together.

LogCabin82 I'm usually not a fan of Christmas Quilts, but I really like yours. The fabrics and sashing you chose really makes this a pretty quilt. Good job.
