I have a quilt that I had been working on for over a year for a friend of mine. It was 80% done and I had to machine quilt some spots in the middle of it that I had not done.

Well I have this small gooseneck lamp behind my machine so I can see the needle better and I forgot it was there. Well needless to say I guess a spot was pushed against the light and I got a burn mark that goes from the front to the backing which is white muslin.

Does anyone know of a way to remove it. I know this is asking for a miracle, but if there is a way I know one of you will know it.

I don't know of a way to remove the discoloration, but the burn has probably altered the structure of the fibers and eventually that spot will become brittle and shatter even if you did get the color removed. Can you show us a picture of the burn ?

Sounds like you have to replace that piece. So Sorry :cry: :cry: :cry:

It is just not possible to replace the piece. It is already sandwiched and quilted to the hilt. I will have to think of a creative way to cover it. I can put the label on the back, but the front, I don't know yet.

Maybe you could applique something over it.

Only thing I can think of is to sew another block on top of the burned one. Then quilt that. Will look a bit wonky (I love that word), but that's the only thing I can think of without taking it all apart.

well, it's going to be a pain in the butt and a 'nit-picking- project but....
take out those two squares and replace them...
if you don't want to cut into the muslin (check real close to see if IT got burned too).... just replacing those two squares should do it...

I was working on a quilt top and finally realized that I had a square in a block turned the wrong way! :shock: so had to take it out, turn it, then stitch it back in...

it's painstaking but doable....

or as has been mentioned - put an applique over it....

This is what I would have to undo to replace this piece. I don't think so.
I am heartbroken, but oh well s--- happens.
