I made each block in the order that the books says. actuall I did not even put this in bags by block but rather just put them in a pile by block. after all blocks were made I then followed each section diagram when putting the blocks together. I sewed each section and then joined it right a way to the previous section working on both sides of the wings at the same time. I sewed only 1 section and aftert that was completed I sewed the other section. Becareful that the sidees are morror images of each other. sort of a sew as you go. It is such a large quilt and the wings are morror images of each other so I put on side on my design wall and the other section on a table and laid each section out at the same time. I actually just put the blocks together and crossed my fingers hoping that the colors flowed good. I had to remake 2 blocks since the I did not like the color combo. Since it a very large quilt I think it would be very ard to lay it out and then sew the blocks together.
the color selecton may be easier if you have the kit.
Here is a pic of my quilt not yet quilted.

bigsister63, your quilt looks great! Thanks for the tips.

Looks good, bigsister63. I may have to get that pattern. I am currently making her City Sampler as a BOM with my LQS.

I am about 3/4 done with all the blocks that go to this quilt. I had to put it away when I started babysitting our newest grandbaby. I am having knee replacement surgery later this month so it will be awhile until I get back in the mood to continue on with the butterfly. But I plan to make it for the baby we are watching. So it will HAVE to be finished eventually. No UFO for that quilt!

Good for you for sticking with it and best of luck on your knee surgery. I had the surgery about a month ago and finally feel like sewing again. Your quilt will be awesome, I'm sure, when you're done! Please post a photo.

Wow, that's stunning. Too difficult for me. I need quicker satisfaction!

Wow -- that is one wonderful quilt. Funny thing is, I had seen Tula Pink's modern quilt book at the library and I thought that categorized her, but this is not what I would call a "modern" quilt. I guess we learn something every day. Good luck on your quilt!
