I have been offered a bernina1630 inspiration plus for $400.00.au
it is missing the extention table and only has an embroidery foot and a plain stitching foot and needs a knee lifter (I maybe able to use the one from my Janome. it looks to be in very good condition.
is this a good machine to buy, I do want an embroidery machine and can't afford a new one.

The 1630 is not capable of doing machine embroidery.

looking at the book that comes with it it does have patterns and pictures it will sew but they are quite small, it also does monograming, what I need to know is would it be a good machine to start with and something I could trade up with later.

Those are decorative stitches... not machine embroidery. Which are you looking for?

I would like an embroidery machine but would the decorative stitches be ok for quilting. I think it would be great for making labels. just need some thoughts run past me to help make a decision, I think the price is ok for what it is. but will it be an advantage to have it.

Compare the cost to the features and how much will you actually use the machine. You aren't convinced about it, I can tell. Buy the machine you really want and that does what you want it to with all the parts and pieces there.

It would work well for labels and some decorative work in quilting.
But if you are really wanting to embroider, I would save the money and keep looking for an embroidery machine.

I would save the 400. toward what you really want.
