Hi everyone,

Has anyone ever brought batting by the yard. The reason I am asking is that I can buy batting that is 93" by the yard for the following prices.

1 - 9 yards for $16.55
10 -29 yards for $15.30
30 and up for $14.20

Is this to much to pay for batting by the yard? Or can I buy it at a lower price?

That seems expensive. I buy my batting at Joann's when it is 50% off, or when I can use my coupons when it is not on sale. I normally pay between $4.00 to $7.00 per yard. Go to joann.com, sign up for their emails, and you can wait for it to go on sale.

Joanns sells nice all cotton by the yard for about $14/yd. With a coupon like Kathios suggested (usually 40%), you'll pay about $8.50/yd

Once a year my LQS has a batting truckload sale which is 40% off their regular price. You do have to buy a 30 yard roll but can always split it with a friend. This is the only way that I buy batting as I hate the batting rolled up so tightly in those individual packages as it is always wrinkled and creased and hard to work with. The prices you quoted seem high even for Canada!

THOSE PRICES ARE WAY WAY HIGH...UNLESS THIS IS SILK, WOOL, OR SOME SPECIAL SPECIAL BATT---THAT IS TWICE WHAT YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIND IT FOR!
to think= i was reluctant to pay $6 a yard ... wow- that is about crazy---
you can purchase a bolt of 90" wide warm & natural from Joannes with a 40% coupon and have enough to make 15 queen size quilts- for about what it would cost you to do 3 or 4 at those prices...i would be asking if it had gold fibers in it...or maybe it's made from OIL???

My Wal-mart has Warm and Natural by the yard. It's worth a look for anyone who has a fabric department in their Wal-mart.

I occasionally buy by the yard, especially if i'm in a hurry and procrastinated on a project that needs done now (crud! the wedding's the day after tomorrow and I really need to quilt this double wedding ring tonight!). But for the most part it's cheaper for me to buy it by the roll. Either way I'd say those prices are way too high (but i'm up here in NY).

P.S. yes that quilting example really happened. I actually managed to quilt and bind a queen size quilt in a day and a half. I will never ever do it again. :) Lessons learned.

Seems very high to me, but depends on what kind/brand you are referring to.

I live in a tiny home and find it easier to store the packaged batting. The warm & natural queen size is the equivalent of 3 yards of 90" batting. I bought some over Memorial weekend and it worked out to the same price per yard as the roll. So for $21 I got a package. Prices went up alot. It was going for $10 last year. :(

by the yard was $12-14 at my LQS and then I bought a Warm and Natural bolt online from Joanns. I waited until I had a 50% off....I think it averaged less than $5 a yard --- after adding shipping. A great deal!
