None of the local shops seem to carry Quilter's Dream (my former LQS closed), so I need to mail order it. Does it make sense to buy a King size instead of a full or Queen size and use the leftovers in other projects? I would prefer to get a roll, but that's out of the question until next Fall.

If you're going to use it, then yes, it makes sense. If you're just thinking about adding to your stash, then I think it's not in your best interest.

I buy the largest size I can afford (an entire roll is out of the question right now) and keep anything leftover. Even if I am only going to make a lap quilt, I buy the king size batting coz I can usually get 4 lap size from 1 king. It is definitely more cost efficient. Small pieces can be put together with zigzag stitch or iron-on tape - once in the middle of sandwich you can't tell it was pieced.

ditto to Buckeye Rose

Same here. I buy the same brand/kind every time to save big pieces.

Ive had that problem since they only make crib then jump to twin size. I only make large lap sizes around 48 in.
So will try the kingsize next time, Thanks. |
A ROLL is always your best option but it can put a dent in one's budget!!!

Hobbs Quilter's Dream is on sale at Connecting Threads thru Oct.

$$ wasn't the problem so much as storage. My sewing area is in the basement and we are doing a major makeover which will take some months to complete. Once it is done, I will be able to hang up the roll right next to where I would be basting quilts!
